Day 2 HIGHLIGHTS

Day 3 ITINERARY

After Breakfast you will continue your journey through the beautiful countryside, again today you will see countless natural wonders arguably some of the best scenery in the country. Today you will make your way up the gorgeous west Highlands, marvelling at the wonderful scenery on the way to Glenfinnan. Glenfinnan was made famous by the Harry Potter Railway line scene, here you will no doubt recognise the viaduct used on the films. Glenfinnan has another claim to fame as the site of the landing of, and raising of the Stewart standard, by Charles Edward Stewart otherwise known as Bonnie Prince Charlie. This was the catalyst to the ill-fated Jacobite rebellion, leading to the final battle fought on British soil, Culloden. You will see the spot where that is marked by the statue of the lone Highlander.

You will travel from Fort William, home of the highest peak in the UK, Ben Nevis, through the peninsula and then onto a ferry to Skye. The scenery here is arguably better than what you have witnessed already, and this route is often overlooked by visitors to Scotland.  Once you have reached the Isle of Skye there will be time to take in the wonderful scenery on a scenic drive to your hotel in the quaint fishing town of Portree.

The Isle of Skye is as steeped in history as it is ruggedly beautiful.  On route to your accommodation, it seems that every corner you turn and hill you climb the more the scenery will strike you.

Before you cross to the Isle of Skye you will come across the fantastic setting of Eilean Donan Castle where you will stop to stretch your legs and no doubt take some pictures of the stunning castle (Please note entrance to the castle is not included, there is no way to pre-book a visit.)

Check into your quaint hotel in Skye where you will be resident for 2 nights. Look out onto the harbour and beyond to the sound of Raasay and onwards to the dramatic and atmospheric Cuillin Hills.     (Breakfast Included)

Day 3 HIGHLIGHTS

Day 4 ITINERARY

Before the scenic tour you will have a Wildlife Boat Trip today, departing from Portree Harbour at 10am for 2 hours. Cruising the waters around the Isle of Skye by catamaran is an amazing way see Skye from an entirely new perspective. The peace and tranquillity of sailing out onto the Sound of Raasay to view wildlife like Sea Eagles and Dolphins will make you feel quite at one with nature.

After the boat trip you will be met by your Driver/Guide for a scenic drive around the Isle of Skye. You may wish to stop from time to time for photos and to get a better glimpse of the magnificent Cuillins or just continue the scenic drive around the island taking in all it has to offer. Next you will visit Inverness, you will be driven round the town and it may be as good a place as any to stop for some lunch or, time permitting, you may wish to do the river walk which will give you a good angle to take a photo of the castle.

You will make your way across the mainland towards Culloden and the outskirts of the Cairngorms National Park. Where better to stay on the eve of your visit to Culloden Battlefield than the HQ of the Jacobite commanders on the eve of that very battle.   (Breakfast Included)

Day 5 HIGHLIGHTS

Day 6 ITINERARY

As you awake in a truly historic building you will feel utterly immersed in the history and the atmosphere of the events of the past that are the theme of today’s fantastic trips. Today you will visit the site of the final land battle in Scotland and the UK, Culloden, which brought about the end of the Jacobite rebellion and the beginning a brutal repression of the highland culture and way of life. The atmospheric battle site is sure to leave an impression.

There are also other places of interest near the battle site, like Clava Cairns, prehistoric standing stones. Touch them and feel the connection to the past, just like Claire from the famous Outlander series.  These Bronze age stones, cairns and burial chambers are over 5000 years old.

Before that you will continue your scenic drive through the Cairngorms National Park taking in more of Scotland’s scenic beauty. There will be time to stop at the picturesque village of Dunkeld.  Here, you can visit Dunkeld Cathedral, a 750-year-old church set on the banks of the beautiful River Tay alternatively with time permitting you could go on a guided-walk by the river to Ossian’s Hall.
